You might want to look at Amphetarate:
http://amphetarate.sourceforge.net/

Also, rojo.com aims to do this sort of "social RSS" idea. I, too, am eager for something like what you describe - a social RSS aggregator that lets me tag entire feeds (not just links), browse by tag to see what feeds others using the same tags have found, and get relevant new feeds to check out that way (not to mention share my own reading list).

It would be a big undertaking for Tribe to really make this happen, though. But eventually someone will do it. It would be a killer service.

i see where you're going...

its like I read autoblog and so does my friend and we both know that. so its a common base of knowledge that we're both in the loop as to what's on autoblog.

the idea of aggregating feeds themselves seems interesting... I could subscribe to an rss feed of OPML files which contain rss feeds which could then be reimported...
my head hurts.

Anyways, I like my aggregator to live offline so i wouldn't use such a module to actually read the feeds but to get access to a compiled list of what my tribe reads. tagging, recommending and easy import/export would be key.

Sorry for the eratic thinking ;)

You are right. A del.icio.us type of module for feeds. "I'm so and so. Here is what I'm reading" is an exact description of how the module could be viewed from a profile.

What I meant by "specific Tribe" aggregated feeds is totally different, but tied to the new module. It is a group of individual user's collected feeds viewed from their perspective Tribes. "TribeNameHere Feeds". It omits your own feeds and selects distinct feeds to cut out redundancy for your personalized viewing.

Lets say I belong to 5 Tribes. All of the different members in the Tribes have feeds via the new user profile "feed aggregator" module. When I view one of the Tribe's main page I can see the discussion groups and the "collected feeds", populated by the members. Those feeds are important to those Tribe members. I can view the other Tribes I belong to and see a total different set of feeds because of the different users within the Tribes.

What this creates is a way to share and foster feeds as individuals and groups.

What I have the need for is a one-stop-shop for my feeds. Up until now, I can find the URL and add it by copy/paste, but I don't want to do that. First I have to find a feed I like (hello, there are so many and which ones are good???) and then add it to all of my feed aggregators.

I want to share my feeds and I just need one place to collect and find them.

The module should allow an import from other aggregators to make it easy for users to switch and use the new service. It should also export so that other aggs can be in sync.

Share, recommend, add, export, categorize, group, rank, and comment/describe feeds.

What do you think?

Justin, you're going in like 5 different directions :)

Do you mean like a del.icio.us thing for feeds?
"I'm jon and I read these feeds daily" as a part of my profile?

That might be kind of interesting but its not very friendly in the scheme of things to have these lists of feeds... it feels more like Bloglines/MyYahoo turf to me

But the concept of a "tribe aggregated feed" sounds like a group blog to me. Is that what you were envisioning? Isn't that what the current discussion groups do?

No, not really. I was trying to understand what Marc was referring to.

It sounds to me like he was describing an aggregator as well.

I keep my aggregator on my desktop and I'm not sure why I would have one on my profile page... I've put two feeds on there and I'm happy with it so far.

I've got three RSS aggregator programs, and growing. When I find a feed I have to add it to all three. Why do I have three? Well, actually I have Radio Userland for my main blog which has one built in, Habari Xenu for Firefox, and My Yahoo. All three bring a little something different to the table. It would be nice if all feed aggregators had an import/export (Habari and Radio have an import/export as an OPML file, so they aren't too difficult to update). There are a few others that I have tested, but none that I would use daily.

If Tribe had an RSS feed Module that let you import and export your feeds it would be a good addition. You could share your feeds with other users. Users could quickly add feeds to their own module from a different user's profile. You could track how many users consume certain feeds. That might have some merit. If it was just a list without features then it wouldn't have much use. I need to be able to catagorize, prioritize, describe, and group feeds.

You could also extend the module to include specific Tribe aggregated feeds. Either by Moderators adding feeds to the Tribe's list or just doing a roll up of all the Tribe's members' feeds.

Then to get feeds into my Tribe profile I would only need a Firefox extension that let me right click on a feed and select "Add To My Tribe". I could also type in the URL and click "Add" from within my module's edit view.

Could we also track how many referrals my 'originally added feed' gets as users add it to their own modules?

Someone warn me if I'm offbase.

Currently you can add one RSS feed per module. We had thought of creating an aggregator module, but it's not something our users have specifically asked for.

Is that what you had in mind?

OK - here's a few ot get yah started:

- put a photo up onto your opage via the 'My Photo' feature. Put up more than one.

- subscribe to a set of RSS feeds and name them. Now create a different set. Make that amodule - too.

- cluster a set fo friends or set of Tribes into one module.

- mix and match combos of stuff (yes I knolwit's primarily limited ot internal Tribe stuff - but we're working on it.

- use the internal blog to connect the dots - start thinking about what 'micro-content' publishing will be
